Philosophy:
The philosophy that drives our classroom design and curriculum at First Church Nursery
School is an understanding that young children learn best by doing. Play is the
work" of children. As they interact with classroom materials, nature, other
children and adults, they begin to make sense of their world and build confidence in their
abilities.
Curriculum:
The goal of our curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic learners. Through
hands-on" learning centers and open-ended" activities, we encourage
children to be active and creative explorers as well as independent, self-confident, and
inquisitive. An emphasis is placed on introducing children to quality literature and
developing a love of reading.
Environment:
First Church Nursery School is a cheerful, bright and busy place where children and caring
adults are growing together. We strive to maintain an atmosphere that supports families in
all stages of development, celebrates diversity and promotes Christian values.
Faculty:
The teachers at F.C.N.S. are carefully chosen for their experience working with young
children and for unique talents they can bring to the program. Most of our teachers have
college degrees in Education. All have years of teaching experience and current First Aid
and CPP. Certification. Faculty participate in at least 16 hours of additional training
each year.

We
are a mission of The First Church in Swampscott, Congregational, that provides quality
education in a nurturing Christian environment for the children of the church and
community.
